Green Energy opportunities worldwide

LONDON UK - Britain has awarded energy companies the rights to develop the world's biggest offshore wind project in hopes the country will become a leader in the emerging industry. A huge opportunity for carrers will be a welcome side effect.

The Crown Estate, in charge of Britain's coastal seabed, on announced winners for the Round 3 tender, including Portugal's EDP Renewables, Britain's Centrica, Germany's E.ON and Sweden's Vattenfall.

In total, the government hopes the programme will deliver up to 32 gigawatts (GW) of generation capacity, or enough to meet a quarter of the UK's electricity need by 2020.
It is expected to bring a step change to the global offshore wind industry, which currently has installed capacity of only about 1.5 GW, accounting for mere 1 percent of the total installed wind capacity of around 150 GW, including onshore.

This is fast becoming a common story worldwide. Best guess would be tens of thousands of jobs created each time an announcement such as this is made. Large scale windfarms such as these are financial windfalls for the communities involved. Anyone looking for an excellent sustainable career would be well advised to investigate turbine maintenance.

  1. I am utterly shocked that such huge investment is going into what I believe is the wrong renewable energy source to put all your eggs into. Wave/Tidal and subsidising of Solar for domestic and commercial is far more affordable, it is also a more superior and a more reliable energy source than the hugely expensive, space greedy and dare I say it, unreliable technology known as wind turbines.

What are your views on this, obviously I am aware that you fully support the wind energy sector, but as many of us begin to realise the vast costs to roll out wind farms, along with the possible major flaws with reliability, I am wondering why monies are not best spent in other areas that are blatantly more reliable and that are more cost effective and will develope our renewable economy in a more diverse way than the obsession with wind turbines.

Exactly what makes wind the top investment for renewable energy?, please explain.

My business specifically recruits technical personnel directly into the renewable energy sector. Looking at market trends and the way the wind energy sector is likely to look like in the next 5 years, our company along with many others support wave/tidal and solar as primary objective over wind energy which looks to be a cartel of a handful of companies that will own all the wind sector, which is unacceptable and unfair for real reliable technologies to come to fruition.

Having anaylised this sector, more job creation would be made within the more reliable solar and wave sector by a mile

It makes you wonder how many back handers have happened for this low end technology to seemingly take a grip in many countries as "The" primary energy source investment.

    Thank you.
